Stammering Lips And Another Tongue

Isaiah 28:11-12

For with stammering lips and another tongue will He speak to this people. To whom He said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

The Holy Spirit manifests in the believer in many ways. He will inspire us to verbalize our own divine prayer language. He enters our hearts to turn them from stone to flesh, and to write all of God’s commandments there.[There are far more than ten of them. We should be very grateful we are justified by faith.] He helps us to pray with confidence when our souls are uncertain or deeply troubled. He teaches us the deeper wisdom of God, drawing us away from the milk to eat the meat. He inspires our hearts and souls to go deeper with the Lord Jesus Christ; to follow Him further into faith. He never talks about Himself, only about the Lord. He energizes our human spirits, and encourages our souls. Listen carefully, and praise the Lord for the gift of the Holy Spirit! As it is written,

John 14:15-18

If ye love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

The Spirit of Slumber

Romans 11:8

(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

The dispensation of God was suspended in order that the fullness of the Gentiles might obtain the salvation offered by the Lord Jesus Christ. Daniel’s seventieth week is approaching, during which time the LORD God will gather His elect out of Israel and bring them into the eternal Promised Land. The former and latter rains of Joel are in progress, and will soon accelerate. Watch for the signs that the nation of Israel is awakening from the spirit of slumber. The Lord will pour out His Spirit upon them liberally at the end of the Great Tribulation, when He brings the third part through the fire. As it is written,

Zechariah 12:10

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Withstand in the Evil Day

Ephesians 6:12-13

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

The flesh and blood battle is about taking up the cross and walking in the Spirit. But when we are in the spirit and the conflict becomes heated, the battle is now against dark spiritual forces. This is when the enemy directly engages us, and we must always have on the full armor and be ready to respond. These conflicts are accelerating in pace and severity as the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ approaches, just as He prophesied in Matthew 24. Events around the world and especially in the Middle East, while they are of deep concern, are merely the beginning of sorrows. We can take hope in all of this, however, for the LORD has promised that believers are not appointed to wrath, and He also gave us His Word that He would never leave us, nor forsake us.

Pulling Out (Harpazo, Part 5 of 5)

The rapture is not a term that is found anywhere in the Bible, it is a concept invented by man to conceive of the Greek word harpazo. (The word “rapture” is taken from the Latin Vulgate translation “rapio”.) This word has five meanings spread across thirteen different Scriptures, so it is my intent here to let the Spirit lead into a deeper understanding of this word, and thereby a greater understanding of the concept of the rapture.

Jude 1:23

And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Here we see the final act of God's redemptive process: pulling out (harpazo) of the fire those who must be saved with fear. Their garments are defiled by the works of the flesh, and they are alarmed by the possibility that they may not escape the flames. This could well be the lukewarm church, spewed out of the mouth of the Lord and left behind at the rapture. If so, they will have to endure dire hardship and persecution without the benefit of the indwelling Holy Spirit in order to escape. The Lord makes a distinction between these, whose very garments of self-righteous works are to be hated, and those who are saved by a heartfelt response to His compassion. As it is written,

Hebrews 6:1-3 KJV

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit.

Now that we have reviewed all thirteen of the harpazo verses, we can begin to pull this all together for a more thorough understanding, from every angle, of the concept of the rapture. Here is a synopsis of the five meanings and their implications:

1.  take by force - seizing, especially with dire urgency (Matthew 11:12; John 6:15; Acts 23:10)

2.  catch away - to take out of the grasp of, to transport instantly (Matthew 13:19; John 10:12; Acts 8:39)

3.  pluck out - to snatch or pull away from, especially by a rapid jerking motion (John 10:28-29)

4.  catch up - translated, removed from a lower state to a higher one (2 Corinthians 12:2,4; 1 Thessalonians 4:17; Revelation 12:5)

5.  pull out - to rescue from danger or peril, especially those who are unable to do so on their own (Jude 1:23)

The Spirit has ministered a set of verses to post separately that will summarize this study, and bring the whole word of the Lord to bear on how we should view the many aspects of harpazo. 2 Corinthians 12:2-4

I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

Paul describes his visions of heaven as being so realistic that he left it to God to determine whether they were spiritual experiences, or physical experiences, or both. He describes being caught up (harpazo) to paradise where he heard "unspeakable" words. Perhaps he witnessed the angelic hosts singing in tongues before the throne of God. The revelations were of such awesome magnitude that a demonic spirit was sent to afflict Paul in direct opposition. The Lord allowed this to continue as a constant reminder that His spiritual strength is sufficient to overcome every physical, mental or emotional affliction.

1 Thessalonians 4:17

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Here is the verse that focuses all the other meanings of harpazo. This is the objective of the revelation of Jesus Christ: to reap the rewards of His sacrifice on the cross by raising up all those who have believed in their hearts that He is Lord and that He was raised from the dead and will resurrect those who believe. Immediately after the Lord was resurrected there was a procession of raised saints through the streets of Jerusalem, visible proof that He was the firstborn among MANY brethren. Paradise, the compartment of hell where the righteous dead were reserved until that moment, was snatched from the grasp of the devil and relocated as Christ led captivity captive. Satan had positioned himself for what he believed to be the ultimate defeat of God's purpose and plan, yet now he stood by helplessly as this glorious cascade of scriptural fulfillment buried him in a wave of righteousness. The next harpazo verse is a vivid description of Satan's intentions and God's glorious intervention:

Revelation 12:5

And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to His throne.

In the form of a red dragon and with a sweep of his tail, Satan snapped up the angels who were foolish enough to follow him and cast them down to the earth, as one third of the angelic hosts now were under his command. He and his army had spent every moment of the ages since they rebelled against God trying to prevent the birth of the Messiah, and this portion of Scripture describes their defeat as Christ is caught up (harpazo) to God. Contrary to his evil scheme to devour God's Son, Christ is now seated at the right hand of God and Satan will be cast down into the deepest depths of eternity, sealed in the burning lake of fire forever.

With just one more verse to go, we have a clearer picture of the full implications of the term harpazo and the concept of the rapture. In this posting we see that it is the catching up (harpazo) of various prophets, men of God, and Christ Himself to heaven, either for revelation or rescue. It is a tool that God uses to impart spiritual visions to His people and to perform His perfect will when circumstances seem hopeless. It is a tool of communion also, a form of direct communication that God uses to bypass His enemies. It is both a glorious demonstration of God's sovereignty and His ability to conceal His intentions from the destructive forces of Satan, the fallen angels, and other dark forces gathered in the world. As it is written,

Having made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He hath purposed in Himself: That in the dispensation of the fullness of times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him...

John 10:28-29

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand.

This is one of the most revealing harpazo passages. The dual nature of this meaning is powerful. It is the nature of the promise of the Father, that as we receive the free gift of His grace through His Son Jesus Christ unto salvation by His shed blood on the cross, we are firmly held in the hand of both Jesus and the Father. Therefore no man is able to pluck us out (harpazo) of their hands. To complete the picture, we have the indwelling presence of the Lord in our hearts in the Person of the Holy Spirit, our Comforter identical to Jesus and who does not speak of Himself but accomplishes the will of God based upon His spoken Word, and who is the seal of His promise unto the day of redemption when He will deliver all believers from the grasp of the enemy.

All three members of the Godhead have sworn their covenant with the one who believes in Jesus Christ, God in the flesh. The trinity of God, in complex unity (echad), has promised to catch us up (harpazo) from the wrath to come. As it is written,

1 Thessalonians 5:9

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ

Given From Heaven

John 3:27

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from Heaven.

Jesus said of John that he had come in the spirit and power of Elijah. Elijah was sent by the Angel of the LORD. He called down fire from Heaven, knowing he was sent, yet he would say, “If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from Heaven”. Always keep this in mind: if what you are doing is not anointed of God, then you should not be doing it. Any power you receive, and all the fire, comes directly from Heaven. It is intended to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Him That Is True

1 John 5:20

Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little. The ultimate revelation of God’s love toward man is His gift of Christ crucified on the cross, the sacrifice of His beloved Son to buy us back from total separation and spiritual death. Throughout the Bible the LORD speaks to this mystery, referring to the Messiah to come in hundreds of different ways. The single most important purpose of Scripture is to reveal the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Tower of Salvation

2Samuel 22:51

He is the tower of salvation for His king: and sheweth mercy to His anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.

The LORD is the tower of salvation (yeshua) to all who place their trust in Him. Trust is a matter of the whole heart, and when your whole heart is after God He responds with His anointing (mashiyach). This is the extension of the secret place of the most high God, a dwelling place under His wings where there is peace and safety in the midst of all the storms of life. Yeshuah Ha’Mashiyach, Jesus our Messiah, beloved Son of God: we trust that you are ever watchful over those whose hearts are fixed on you. Thank You LORD, for keeping us in perfect peace in the midst of the rising tide of deep darkness, as the stormy seas of the nations toss up their foam. As the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ draws near, we remember that it often seems darkest before the Day dawns. As it is written,

Isaiah 60:1-2

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee.

From the Four Winds

Matthew 24:31

And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

   When the Lord descends from His throne to gather His elect, He will come with a shout; with the voice of the archangel; and with the trump of God. The sound of the trumpet will direct His holy angels to execute the rapture: in a glorious victorious lightning flash iota of time. He will gather believers from the four winds: the four corners of the earth. He will gather the dead and the living elect from the four winds: the four great kingdoms of the fallen world system. He shall gather all saints prior to the tribulation from the four winds: the four dark spiritual principalities that will rise up from the river Euphrates. He will gather His witnesses from the four winds: from the four corners of mankind where He scattered them like seed in the soil of mankind, sown to cause the wheat of His harvest to spring up in His time. First the blade, then the ear, then the full corn in the ear. Be sober. Be vigilant. Be diligent. The time of the full corn in the ear is upon us, from the four winds; we know not how.
